last Thursday of the year
I arrived in Iran on Esfand 25st… on the last
Thursday of the solar year.
I was curious about this special day.
I went to the cemetery to see what was happening before Norooz holiday.
what I found was quite interesting.
the atmosphere was like a reunion.
the relatives were standing around the graves of their dead ancestors.
they cleaned the graves and washed them with rose water.
they added the fresh flower.
they also added some plates of food like date, candy, sweets, fruit, and halva.
I walked through the cemetery and admired the beauty of all the colorful flowers.
the relatives chatted together and offer their foods to another.
I ate lots of candy and sweets so I found that I preferred the Iranian approach. they acknowledge death instead of denying it.
the cemetery is somber in other days of the year.
but it’s a day to appreciate life before the beginning of the new year.
it’s also a day to remember those who had passed away.
