چرا حرف اضافه to؟

Hello dear friends.
I have a question about preposition “to”.
Here is an example in video in a minute section of Zabanshenas. A video of Phill talking about
all together" and “altogether”

My brother has an altogether different personality to me

Why is he using “to”?
Is “than” OK to use in this sentence or not?

I appreciate your support and help in advance.
Pardis.

Hi
for the adj “different” we use “to” , " from" and “than” but in spoken British English, different from and different to are both common.
different than is also used in American English and occasionally in British English, especially when it is followed by a clause.

He lookes no different than when he was 20

people prefer different from so from is the preposition to use in writing

Their homes are completely different from ours.
