0:34 Actually, sometimes we have the opportunity to tell lies and get away with it. And, as you can guess, it would be easier. But, some say that honesty is the best policy, and we should always stay true. Is it really the best policy? Or sometimes it’s just plain stupid?
I know. The lies we can get away with, are mostly the small ones which do not really cause any harm. Whether you tell the truth or not. They just affect your picture. Like when your teacher calls on you and either you come clean and say “I haven’t studied”, or you come up with a rather lame lie like “I didn’t really know you were going to ask!, etc.”. You’re going to get a 1 anyway, but you try to save your picture. I come clean in these kinds of situations and feel rather annoyed afterward for not coming up with an excuse like everyone else does, but there are times that I lie, too. Because I don’t want to “hurt” someone or make them worry about me all the time, or lose their trust. And that’s not at all ok, because I know I’m being selfish and unfair to them. I meant even if I say I agree with it, it wouldn’t seat well with my actions. But I think being honest, is the key most of the time. So, yeah, I think it’s true.
And don’t ask me questions! I know you’re busy, and my answers are looooooong. I don’t want to take up your time more than it is necessary. And thank you.
2:20 Actually, noble lies are a little different, but now that you’ve mentioned it
Those kinds of lies that you said, I think we can’t really avoid them. It’s just a non-optional social convention
