Salaam,

:small_orange_diamond: Before writing the text, I want to explain one point. Some times we learn some idioms in the movie, book and anything else, but we don’t know that those idioms are polite or not. For example " that sucks", I was going to use it in text and I thought maybe it didn’t use in any situation. So, I searched and noticed: Yes! It is impolite but not vulgar expression.
You can see here :point_right: https://www.italki.com/question/287998?hl=en-us
Now I’m afraid in advance for knowing its mean and using it,just for learning :slightly_smiling_face:.

New text and new idioms

One of the most memorable events that usually stands out in our mind is Nowruz days, even more new year’s delivery-moment which is a blown away feeling time for us. But this year everything is changed and all traditions have been transformed. That sucks that all plans fall through like visiting relatives, gift buying and giving, going on holiday and being on the road and hanging around outdoors with family and friends on Nature Day that is called 13 bedar. It doesn’t matter the place we go is far or just a stone’s throw away. And other thing that is changed is this old saying " The more the merrier " to the less the healthier ". I don’t want to be pessimistic more and as I pointed in previous text about the situation “It is water under the bridge”, just try to take advantage and enjoy good health.

If something stands/sticks out in your mind : You don’t forget it easily

Ex: One thing that my mam told me always sticks out in my mind

توضیح:
وقتی می خواهیم اشاره به موردی کنیم که می دونیم جزء فراموش نشدنی هاست و همیشه در ذهن می موند، از این اصطلاح استفاده می کنیم. مثل خاطرات مدرسه، یا برای آقایون خاطرات سربازی و …

Definition

If you say that you are blown away by something, or if it blows you away, you mean that you are very impressed or excited by it.

how the slang is used

Many things can blow us away. This feeling of amazement can happen when someone does something nice for us. Or we might feel blown away when we see something amazing. When was the last time that you were blown away? What happened?

Examples:

  1. I was blown away by how good that movie was!
  2. I was blown away by the tone and the quality of the story.
  3. I was blown away when I heard that my brother is getting married.
  4. She just totally blew me away with her singing.
  5. My friend showed up at my door with two big pizzas and my favorite ice cream, rocky road. That was super nice of her! I was blown away .

توضیح:
یکی از اصطلاحات برای بیان اینکه شخص شدیدا تحت تاثیر قرار می گیرد این اصطلاح هست که دو فرم مجهول و معلوم در جملات مثال آورده شده است.

(UK also hang about (somewhere), hang round (somewhere))

Definition

to wait or spend time somewhere, doing nothing

Example

  1. What kind of farmers would be hanging around in their hut on a hot afternoon like this?
  2. Two days he was hanging around the place.

توضیح:
این اصطلاح هم به معنی صبر کردن و معادل با Hang on یا wait هم هست.
اما در این متن تا حدی شبیه hang out هست اما معمولا سیزده بدر مثل یک سفر تفریحی نیست لذا hang out استفاده نشده و چون گذراندن وقت مختصر در کنار خانواده و دوستان در دل طبیعت هست حتی بدون انجام کار خاص و فقط استفاده از فضای آزاد و طبیعت هست hang around انتخاب شده است.

A stone’s throw away

“to be a stone’s throw away” / “to be only/just a stone’s throw away”
Meaning: to be very close; not far

Similar Expressions

  • Our destination is a stone’s throw away.
  • Our destination is very close.
  • Our destination is near.
  • Our destination is a hop, skip, and jump away.

When do we use it?

This is just a fun and different way to say that a place is near. We can only use this expression for places. We cannot use it with times or dates.

Basically, this expression means that a place is so close that we could throw a stone there.

How do we use it?

We always use this expression after a “be verb”. The subject of the sentence is the place or location.

  • The store is a stone’s throw away.

We can add “from…” after this expression to show that the place or location is close to. And we often add the words “only” or “just” to emphasize.

  • My house is only a stone’s throw away from my son’s school.
  • The hotel is just a stone’s throw away from the beach.
  • My office is stone’s throw away from my apartment.

Example English Conversations

Conversation 1:

A) How far is it from here?
B) It is just a stone’s throw away.

Conversation 2:
A) How much longer until we get to the hotel?
B) Don’t worry. It is only a stone’s throw away from here. We will be there soon.
A) Great. I’m getting tired of being in this car.
